Chevron North America Exploration and Production Company is accepting online applications for the position of Deepwater Exploration Earth Scientist located in Houston, Texas, USA. Overview: The successful candidate will serve as an Exploration Geologist/Geophysicist in the Deepwater Business Unit’s Exploration team, maturing prospects for the Deepwater Gulf of Mexico exploration portfolio. He or she will work as part of a multi-functional team including members of the Exploration, Geophysics, Appraisal, Drilling, and Geological & Geophysical (G&G) Operations teams and will be responsible for maturing prospects to drill primarily focused on subsalt exploration prospects. The primary objective of this work is to provide technical assessment of risk and reserve potential of prospect. Key Responsibilities: Key job responsibilities involve a combination of technical interpretation, coordination and mentoring responsibilities. (Approximately 80% technical application, 20% coordination, mentoring etc.). • Conduct own interpretation work leading to identification and maturation of current prospect portfolio. • Project liaison with internal and external specialists, as required, on key technical issues. • Provide representation, as needed, at partner meetings, prospect screenings, etc. • Establish and coordinate networks of other professionals within the Business Unit, Chevron technology organizations, and operating partners. • Perform project planning and establish strategies for own projects. • Mentor/train other earth scientists, as appropriate, to grade level. | ||
| Skills | Required Qualifications: • Bachelor's Degree in Geology/Geophysics. • Ability to quickly assimilate regional and local geologic and geophysical data to identify or mature subsalt opportunities for exploration program in Gulf of Mexico Deepwater. • Knowledge of Unix-based work station interpretation systems and applications (e.g., Landmark and Voxelgeo skills). • Familiarity with exploration and seismic work processes. • Experience and understanding of the key processes comprising exploration including basic seismic processing, leasing, prospect generation and maturation, risk analysis and exploratory drilling • Must be self-directed requiring minimal supervision. • Demonstrated problem solving abilities. • Takes initiative. Preferred Qualifications: • Master's Degree in Geology/Geophysics. | ||
