Energy Technology Company (ETC) is accepting online applications for the position of Velocity Modeling Geophysicist, located in Houston, Texas.

Overview:

The successful candidate will serve as a Geophysicist in Geophysical Services Unit’s Time-to-Depth Services Team, specializing in Time-to-Depth Velocity Modeling. This role will be responsible for planning and executing complex velocity modeling projects for exploration, major capital and base business prospects worldwide.

Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct own technical projects leading to maturation of current prospect portfolio.
• Act as project liaison with Research and Development (R&D) on key technical issues and joint projects.
• Establish and coordinate networks of other professionals within Business Units, ETC, and operating partners.
• Perform project planning and establish strategies for own projects.
• Participate, actively, in planning processes within the Time-to-Depth Services Team.
• Mentor/train other geophysicists and/or geologists in interpretation teams in technical geophysical skills, as needed. Objective is effective technology transfer.
• Participate in identifying and specifying needs for new technology from R&D.
• Serve as a Key Contact for certain Technology Portfolio projects, a possibility.
• Provide geophysical representation, as needed, at Exploration Review Team & Reservoir Asset Management reviews, partner meetings and prospect screenings.
SkillsRequired Qualifications:
• A Bachelor's Degree.
• Strong interpretation skills (processing skills a plus), strong analysis and application skills, can work independently and with large team of peers and developers, experienced on both UNIX/Linux platforms, quickly learns new tools, strong communications skills.
• Knowledge in a variety of geophysical areas and ability to apply this knowledge in solving prospect/well related problems (i.e. velocity modeling and analysis, checkshot & VSP data, ray trace illumination).
• Experienced in workstation based interpretation and analysis of 3-D seismic data.
• Ability to handle synthetics, velocity models, and seismic attributes including velocity, earth modeling, and illumination software/technologies (Either know or are able to learn: Velocity Toolbox, GOCAD, Limbr/ALRT 3D, Depth Team Express).
• Fosters cooperation and teamwork across organizations and functions.
• Ability to teach/mentor new team members, as appropriate to grade level.
• Ability to understand project needs and interact with BU.
• Ability to incorporate all the data necessary to create accurate and detailed maps required for exploration and development.
• Ability to identify and quantify major seismic uncertainties and limitations for uncertainty mgmt plans.
• Ability to use appropriate tools and assumptions to meet project goals and timelines.
• Ability to handle multiple projects.

Preferred Qualifications:
• A Master's Degree.
