Chevron Energy Technology Company is accepting online applications for the position of Intellectual Property Subject Matter Expert located in Houston, Texas or San Ramon, California. Overview: Earth Science Department (ESD) Intellectual Property (IP) is a technical career ladder (TCL) position reporting to the ESD IP Manager with responsibilities related to technical content. The candidate will focus on the technical components of IP such as competitive information, patenting, trade secret management and publications reviews; and will work with the Intellectual Property Practice Group (IPPG) for legal and process support. This position will expose the successful candidate to the full breadth of Chevron’s Earth Sciences technologies and their associated technology management practices. Key Job Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to: • Review third party patents, generate competitive information and suggest gaps in patent landscapes where ESD might file. Work with IPPG (Intellectual Property Practice Group) to mitigate any associated risks. • Promote patenting by others and assist on the use and design of screening tools for the department’s technology portfolio programs and projects for innovation as well as on the IP decision for each innovation. • Attend peer review sessions and provide insights into potential IP positioning for the project being reviewed. • Assist in the identification of trade secrets and documenting trade secrets management. • Promote and monitor handling of trade secrets during communications, especially with BU’s and outside groups (TechNets). • Assist with patent application preparation by the IPPG and the management of the patent portfolio (maintain or allow patents to lapse) and foreign filing decisions. • Review publications requests and help make decisions on approval or disapproval for publication. • Support oppositions, i.e., assist in preparation of filings (gathering and analyzing prior art) and being an expert witness at hearings. • Support legal opinions by gathering and analyzing prior art. | ||
| Skills | Required (Basic) Qualifications: • A minimum of a Master’s degree. • Knowledge of energy industry technologies and processes, with strong emphasis on geophysics and geology. • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. • Willingness and ability to collaborate and partner on projects. • Willingness and ability to independently work across organizational boundaries and with people at all levels. • Knowledge of other technical areas around exploration, reservoir management, and drilling & completion activities. • Knowledge of intellectual property management systems and processes, and ability to facilitate IP strategy formulation, and conduct IP market assessments. • Excellent analytical and organizational skills. Preferred Qualifications: • A PhD in a Geosciences or related field (Physics or Applied Mathematics). | ||
