Chevron Africa and Latin America Exploration and Production is accepting online applications for the position of Well Site Operations Geologist located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Overview: Chevron Brazil Limitada is seeking an experienced Well Site Operations Geologist for an international, well site geology position on the Frade Sub Surface Team. This is a 28 day rotational assignment that requires working back-to-back with an alternate. The successful candidate will work on the commencement of the Frade Development Drilling Program beginning July 2008. Phase One will consist of 16 wells over a 2 year span and will likely be followed by a Phase Two program over a 1 year span, involving 6 additional wells. The Well Site Geologist will be required to be present on the rig site at all times during drilling and data acquisition activities. The rig-based work is anticipated to make up the majority of the total rotational schedule. He/She will also be expected to work in the Chevron office in Rio during non-rig days, to provide support to the Frade Sub-surface Team, and complete rig-related activity and preparation for the following well. Key Job Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to: • Wellsite observations – including drilling activity, geologic samples description, logging (logging while drilling and wireline operations), core and casing point picking and geosteering horizontal wells. • Reporting – provide daily geologic report and strip log during drilling operations, upload all pertinent geologic reports and data to web-server, monitor sample shipments and logistics, and tracking geologic non-productive time. • Compile end-of-well summary report of geologic data acquisition activities. • Communication – provide geologic information, support and interpretation to Chevron’s rig- and office-based personnel during pre-drill meetings, daily drilling operations meetings on the rig, and post-drill lookback meetings. Serve as the critical link for geologic information and data flow between the Rio-based subsurface team and the rig-based drilling team. • Safety compliance monitoring – provide oversight of rig-based mud logging, logging while drilling (LWD) and wireline logging crews, ensure contractor equipment and behaviors are up to Chevron Operational Excellence standards. • Well operations planning – work in the Rio office during non-drilling days-on time and plan well operations for up-coming drilling activity. | ||
| Skills | Required (Basic) Qualifications: • A Bachelor’s degree in Earth Science, Petroleum Engineering, or other Engineering discipline. • Experience in offshore, deepwater working environment as a Well Site Operations Geologist. • Strong communication and organizational skills. • The ability to handle numerous rig activities at the same time, and provide complex, timely and effective information and recommendations to the onshore Sub-Surface team. • Self initiative to implement the action plan. • Understand geologic and business objectives of the development project. • Strong mentor and trainer. • Familiarity with Geological & Geophysical interpretation software. (GOCAD, SeisWorks, Geolog). • Experience in drilling horizontal wells and familiarity with geosteering operations, along with the ability to monitor directional drilling and make timely recommendations. • The ability to understand and integrate data from various technical specialists while fostering effective working relations with and between numerous contractors. Preferred Qualifications: • A Master’s degree in Earth Science, Petroleum Engineering, or other Engineering discipline. | ||
