Chevron Asia Pacific Exploration and Production is accepting online applications for the position of Development (Model Building) Earth Scientist located in Bangkok, Thailand.

Overview:

This is a hands-on field development earth science position focused on reservoir characterization and earth model building in support of the identification, maturation and execution of improved oil recovery projects in the Gulf of Thailand.

Housing is non-compound, with international schools K-12. Bangkok hospitals are modern and well equipped. Tropical climate with 3 distinct seasons. Average temperature is 83 F in Bangkok.

Key Job Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

• Work closely with petroleum engineers in an optimization team to provide input for initial and remedial completions, as well as base business optimization and development geology.
• Provide reservoir mapping, characterization and model building, horizontal well planning, waterflood project support and mentoring.
• Perform quality control.
• Conduct resource and risk estimates.
• Recommend economic and strategic plans to business unit and operating company.
SkillsRequired (Basic) Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Earth Science, Geophysics or Geology.
• Expert level experience with horizontal well planning and earth modeling.
• Strong working knowledge of dynamic fluid flow (gas, oil and water).
• Significant experience in earth model building for simulation
• Ability to recognize problems and opportunities for enhancing hydrocarbon production.
• Expertise in integrated subsurface approach to production geology, development geology and development drilling.
• Experience in subsurface mapping, waterflood monitoring.
• Expert user of Landmark Stratworks, Seisworks, Gocad++/Petrel, DSS or OFM production monitoring tools, or other quick-look mapping tools.
• Excellent computer problem solving skills.
• Experience in reserve estimation and determination, well planning, working knowledge of geophysics and well-log petrophysics.
• Knowledge of fluvial stratigraphy.
• Familiarity with reservoir engineering principals.
• Working knowledge of well design, horizontal well planning and execution.
• Willingness and ability to mentor in many areas ranging from development geology to exploration, applied development geophysics, log interpretation, well planning, reserves assessment and reserves development.
• Strong communication skills (concept articulation, listening, presentation and report writing).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Earth Science, Geophysics or Geology.
• Knowledge of geostatistical concepts and techniques.
• Knowledge of capital stewardship practices.
