| Description | POSITION SUMMARY This position will provide global corrosion engineering support for Client’s development projects and producing assets. The position requires significant experience in petroleum industry corrosion problems, knowledge of the corrosion mechanisms and the proper application of the appropriate mitigation/control methods. Additionally, the person in this role must have in-depth understanding of oilfield treating chemicals and their application in production operations. Normal job duties will be to provide in-house technical expertise and engineering consultation on all types of corrosion and chemicals issues in support of drilling, development and production operations within the upstream exploration and production business. This position will require some domestic and international travel. ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES • Provide technical expertise on corrosion related issues in the upstream business including mitigation and control of corrosion mechanisms, the correct application of chemicals, protective coatings/linings and cathodic protection systems. • Provide engineering consultation to technical staff and E&P leadership on corrosion related issues. • Stay current with the latest technology developments in the area of corrosion engineering and mitigation, oilfield treating chemicals and corrosion monitoring. Evaluate the technologies for potential application and assist the operating units with the proper application and evaluation of new technologies. • Review well and/or facilities designs and provide technical recommendations for the application of chemicals, coatings/linings, cathodic protection and corrosion monitoring systems. • Assist operating units with troubleshooting of corrosion related problems and development of cost-effective solutions. • Must be familiar with failure mechanisms and failure analysis techniques with the ability to organize/perform root cause failure analyses. Work with materials engineers and other technical staff and lead failure analysis efforts as necessary to identify and understand corrosion related failures in all types of equipment. Direct third party analysis work if required. • Must be familiar with industry codes and standards such as NACE ASTM, ASME, and API as regards the application of materials for wells and facilities. • Review Client’ practices with respect to industry standards and trends; develop and implement changes to company standards and best practices. • Participate in relevant external professional societies such as NACE, API, ISO, ASTM, ASM International, etc. Support Client with work on national and international industry committees in Materials Engineering. • Teach periodic internal classes on corrosion engineering and application to the upstream E&P business. • Direct third party laboratory analysis and/or testing of chemicals as necessary. | ||
| Skills | SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE • 20+ years of corrosion engineering and treating chemicals experience with emphasis on downhole and production facilities applications. • Knowledge of alternate forms of corrosion control such as materials, inhibitors, coatings, etc. • Must be knowledgeable of operating and maintenance issues associated with wells, pipelines and production facility systems. • Self-motivated to learn and adopt new technologies, mentor others, and coordinate technology deployment with other EPT teams. • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to effectively communicate with management and operations. • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision in a diverse, multidiscipline team environment. • Proactive analytical skills with attention to details and process improvements. EDUCATION/TRAINING • Minimum Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
