Description SUMMARY: The Senior Manager of Business Development and Planning will be responsible for investigating, recommending, and developing new initiatives and enhancements to existing programs to support the growth of SPE’s meetings, publishing, training and other lines of business. He/she will work closely with senior management on strategic planning for SPE’s global activities, as well as region-specific initiatives. His/her responsibilities include detailed business analysis to drive a better understanding of strategy and business performance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

This position will assist SPE’s Executive Management Team in business development and planning activities, including:
• Performs analysis of internal and external market research (environmental scanning, member surveys, etc.)
• Provides financial analyses
• Leads all aspects of M&A process – from prospect development through conclusion
• Prepares proposals to Board of Directors on new business and partnership opportunities
• Recommends program and product improvements
• Teams with functional and regional managers to launch and monitor success of new programs and products
• Monitors portfolio of projects/initiatives in terms of mission compatibility, strategic focus, business impact and resource allocation
• Partners with Senior Staff in developing and supporting positioning strategies with potential and existing partners
• Seeks out new business opportunities and potential business partners
• Explores new business opportunities in coordination with SPE’s regional/functional managers and monitors all M&A deals, partnerships/alliances, etc., throughout the organization
• Partner with members of the Leadership Team in developing and supporting position strategies

Required Qualifications
• BA/BS degree required.
• MBA or CPA a strong plus, or undergraduate finance and accounting coursework and 2 to 5 year’s business analysis and planning experience
• Strong finance, analytical, modeling and accounting skills
• Strong influencing and negotiating skills
• 6-10 years experience in international meetings, publishing, association management or other relevant business
• Strong organizational skills including the ability to multitask efficiently and work effectively with diverse people
• Demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Proven ability to interact with top management levels
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
• Knowledgeable in Excel, Word and PowerPoint
• Ability and willingness to travel (including internationally) in support of SPE’s global activities
• Can reside in Texas or London
