DescriptionBasic Function:
Expert technical advisor for the planning, design, co-ordination & supervision of drilling/workover activities. Involves preparing drilling programmes for high-capital high-risk exploration areas where difficult drilling problems exist & preparing prototype development drilling programmes to eliminate problems originally encountered during exploration.

Function & Responsibilities:
1. Develops basic data required for preparing capital project plans & budgets. Includes estimating drilling time & well costs, identifying possible drilling problems & the required casing programmes.
2. Undertakes studies & analyses related to drilling/workover activities including new technology, cost & materials forecasting, performance of special tools, procedures, etc. & other non-routine problems.
3. Designs drilling & workover programmes including rig scheduling, casing, bit, mud, coring, testing, cementing, downhole & wellhead equipment.
4. Provides technical advise & supervision in the field during critical phases of programmed work.
5. Assists & advises the Drilling Supervisors & acts as technical representative of the company in related contract negotiations, trouble-shooting, special drilling/workover problems etc.
6. Has work contacts with other departments for obtaining information and/of co-ordination of work. Has contacts with suppliers & contratcors personnel regarding services, materials, costs & execution of work.
7. Helps with (daily, weekly & monthly) drilling/workover reports, taking, preparing, summarising & distributing.
8. Any other tasks of a Staff Drilling Supervisor nature.

Independence of Operation:
Plans & devises programmes guided by general directives. High demand for analytical judgement & decisions. Nature of work makes it generally non-routine.
SkillsB.Sc Degree in Engineering
Minimum of 13 years diversified experience in oil industry, engineering work including 5 years in design & supervision of drilling & workover operations.
