DescriptionBasic Function:
To ensure that all Marine meachanical & equipment is kept fully operational & where required, in class to Lloyds Register of shipping.

Functions & Responsibilities:
1.Maintains all mechanical & electrical equipment on the Tug to a high standard to enable her to carry out her duties in a satisfactory manner.
2. Advise on any repairs required to maintain the operational efficiency of the Tug and to carry these out.
3. To ensure that all equipment is surveyed in accordance with Lloyds requirements.
4. To carry out mechanical repairs on the Work Barge and all marine launches & ensure that a high mechanical standard is maintained on all marine floating equipment.
5. To assist in Marine operations when & where required.
6. To enforce the observance of the safety rules, regulations & practice by the maintenance operators to carry out their work. Ensures the efficiency of centralised fire fighting system.
7. In emergency situations, to apply the measures necessary to restore the safety conditions & promptly inform their superior thereof.
8. To provide for the keeping of adequate records on the engines, machinery & equipment performances. On maintenance carried out. On material & spare part consumption. To request the acquisition to restore the stock level.

Independance of Operation:
Works independently to ensure that all Marine Equipment is maintained in a sound condition. Refers to Marine Superintendent for work that requires outside department assistance
SkillsTo hold a First Class Engineer's Motor Certificate. To have been a Chief Marine Engineer for at least 5 years of a ship of h.p. not less than 4600. To obtain dispensation from Lloyds for survey work.
