DescriptionBasic Function:
To ensure the correct & safe movements of all the Tankers loading petroleum products, such as piloting, berthing, hose-handling, unberthing & fire & safety inspections.

Function & Responsibilities:
1. Directs & controls all ship movements within the terminal limits. Directing ship Masters courses & speed to safe approach to and from the berths & directs the berthing & unberthing operations.
2. Ensures ship Masters comply with all Port rules & regulations & observe local customs, etc.
3. Collects & relays to control all pertinent data in respect to export Tankers.
4. Co-ordinates during the mooring operations, the movements of crew & boats & controls the correct deballasting of the Tankers, the connection & disconnection of the hoses & before commencement of loading, to inspect the Tankers in order to verify if same is ready for cargo (dry tanks). To advise ship's officers on best hose-handling techniques, control loading throughout on continuous VHF radio watch, maintaines liaison between Tankers & shore.
5. Ensures that the Tanker remains in the right position during the loading, suggesting the necessary manoeuvres in the event of disturbance due to wind or sea current & to control during the loading the correct development of the operations.
6. Participates in tanks measurements of the export Tankers & to prepare the Tanker time sheet in agreement with the ship's Master. To print out any anomalies or discrepancies that may arise.
7. Ensures during the mooring & loading activities, that all the prescribed safety rules & procedures are fully respected by the export Tanker personnel.
8. Controls the completeness of the shipping documentation & in agreement with the storage & export Tanker's Master, to unmoor the Tankers.
9. Directs Tugboat & mooring Launches as required during Marine operations, berthing unberthing & hose-handling.
10. Assists Marine Superintendent in offshore maintenance. Reports & directs berth repairs as required.
11. Compiles Marine records, Tanker time analysis, meteorological records, log books, etc., as assigned by the Marine Superintendent or his Deputy.
SkillsMarine College/Academy education with attainment of Master Mariners Degree, which incorporates medical attention, marine law, fire & safety & Master Foreign Going Certificate for unlimited tonnage on World Wide Trade, recognised by all major maritime nations. Served as ship's Master on VLC oil tankers or Pilot/Mooring Master for 5 years
