DescriptionBasic Function:
Organises, supervises & participates in the installation, maintenance & repair of all instrumentation systems & equipment associated with the Company's oil & gas operations.

Function & Responsibilities:
1. The organisation, disposition & control of manpower, equipment & facilities assigned to the instrumentation section.
2. Is responsible for the observance of safe work practices within the Field & workshop areas & ensures that applicable safety procedures & regulations are observed by the personnel under his jurisdiction.
3. Ensures that all installation & repair work is carried out according to the applicable standards & codes of practice & that the workforce under his command is aware of such standards.
4. Constantly reviews installed systems & equipment to ensure safe & correct operation. Initiates remedial action where required & makes suggestions regarding modifications or additions to the existing installations.
5. Undertakes or directs others in the fault finding, maintenance & repair of a wide variety of pneumatic, electric & electronic instrumentation systems & equipment. This includes, but is not limited to, systems which indicate & control basic functions such as flow, temperature, pressure & level, metering systems of various types, operating control systems for large & complex rotating equipment, sophisticated surveillance & condition monitoring systems & complex laborotary analysis equipment.
6. Liaises with members of the instrumentation group in order to solve complex problems & where required will initiate assistance from other sections or supervisory staff.
7. Co-ordinates other groups leaders within the maintenance department on projects requiring multi-discipline personnel. Liaises with other departments, e.g. safety, engineering, draughting, etc. to ensure activities are carried out correctly & efficiently.
8. Reviews present or future work to be carried out by the instrumentation section & maintains up-to-date records & project files.
9. Maintains information & equipment records on all systems & equipment pertaining to the instrumentation group.
10. Organises efficient remedial action to correct instrumentation malfunction or failures on a 24 hour basis.
11. Analyses or diagnoses repetitive malfunctions & makes recommendations regarding corrective action.
12. Works closely with Maintenance Planning group & advises on preventive maintenance procedures & compilation of equipment data.
13. Co-ordinates the training of local craftsmen & monitors progress. Advises training group of section or individual requirements.
14. Has firm knowledge of material procurement & warehousing technique. Prepares equipment & spare part requisitions.
15. Is responsible for all routine administration duties relating to the instrumentation section, this includes the preparation of daily & monthly reports, time sheets, etc.
16. Must be literate & numerate to a high degree & be capable of compiling detailed technical reports when required.
17. Must be aware of proper man-management techniques in order to motivate & control a multi-national work force to the Company's advantage.
18. Should have a responsible attitude to the Company's needs & requirements.
SkillsB.Sc. Degree in Instrumentation with 5 years experience or Technical School Graduate or equivalent plus further technical or academic training. Minimum of 12 years relevant experience in instrumentation & control engineering. Including PLC & DCS Systems.
RemarksIndependence of Operation:
As a highly skilled technical specialist the individual is required to exercise a high degree of analytical judgement in matters pertaining to repair & maintenance of instrumentation systems related equipment.
