| Description | The Shell Group has been at the forefront of the natural gas industry for more than 40 years and we have an unrivalled global position in natural gas amongst private energy companies. We’re the world's largest equity producer of liquefied natural gas and hold a leading position in the world’s key natural gas markets of Europe, Asia-Pacific and United States. As the world searches for greener forms of energy, we expect demand for natural gas - the cleanest hydrocarbon - to double over the next two decades, and are well positioned to capture growth opportunities. The Shell Group has decided to establish a professional Power Team to give our businesses a clear single point source for seeking advice and support for their power requirements, including the impact of carbon emissions. All projects with a material power element will be required to include the Power Team in the project development and governance processes. Accountability for the integrated project remains with the Group Business, and the new team is co-located with the Clean Coal Business teams in Gas & Power. The goals and targets for the Power Team are to provide solutions and opportunities for creating direct reductions in CO² emissions from existing and new power generation facilities of the Group and to advice the Group Business on Power Market developments. We’re currently looking to recruit a Power Advisor to join the team in The Hague. Responsibilities: As Power Advisor, you’ll help to deliver professional and timely advice, and liaise with other Shell businesses through close networking and regular contact. In detail, you’ll be required to: • Support the Regional General Managers in delivering advice and guidance to those Group businesses that are considering new power sources • Develop and maintain a database of the Shell Group’s major power assets and monitor their operational performance against Group targets • Maintain a good understanding of the ability of technology developments to contribute to improved environmental and efficiency performance of power plants, especially in the area of carbon mitigation • Develop links with other Shell groups working in these fields, and with manufacturers and other external sources • Liaise with and manage ongoing contractual arrangements with external Power Market consultancies • Develop an understanding of power markets where Shell operates and requires power for its own operations and where Shell may wish to sell equity fuels, predominantly gas, to third party generators • Work with Strategy Team analysts to develop and maintain power database and screening models, including those used for power economics and market dispatch • Develop contacts at appropriate levels with Governments, power utilities, regulatory and other relevant authorities and organisations to assist Shell in the power business sector • Help the Power Team demonstrate that it brings added value to power development through knowledge of innovative but economic and reliable technological solutions, balancing the need for environmental performance with the need for reliability and economic performance | ||
| Skills | Requirements: With knowledge of commercial power development and a good appreciation of the technologies involved, you’ll have a practical understanding of liberalised and regulated power markets. Previous experience with power market analysis and power market modeling and an engineering background would be an advantage but is not essential, although you should have a good awareness of power technologies, contract structures and risk allocation principles. We’ll expect you to understand the commercial and technical attributes of various generation and transmission technologies, and appreciate the environmental impact of these technologies. An interest in pre and post-combustion technologies for capturing CO² is essential, as is knowledge of the potential methods of sequestration. You’ll also understand project evaluation through economic and other modelling techniques and project assurance processes. Flexible and with first-class interpersonal and team working skills, you’ll be able to work on new opportunities with the minimum of supervision. It’s essential that you have the ability to establish and build relationships with project stakeholders, and promote and manage Shell's reputation. Displaying enthusiasm and commitment, and sensitive to other cultures, you’ll have fluent verbal and written English and be at an advantage if you have knowledge of Dutch. | ||
