| Description | A Top Infrastructure Development Company is on the look out for a Lead Urban Design to be based in Abu Dhabi. Responsibilities Work as an effective member of the Urban Planning Department in leading the development of plans and policies for a large, mixed use industrial port development and managing staff within the Urban Design section of the department. Duties: -Develop and manage a competent team of planning professionals to execute the works of the section and support planning and development activities. -Plan and execute urban design projects and programmes that meet requirements, and manage budgets, timelines, and delivery. -Plan for the appropriate and efficient utilization of land. -Plan for the provision of the requisite infrastructure and community facilities, amenities, and services. -Provide the necessary guidance to promote safe, sustainable, and attractive developments. Objective To ensure the formulation of rational urban design plans and policies to guide the physical development of land in line with the Company’s expressed goals and objectives and the Emirate of Abu Dhabi’s regulations. Role Profile • Develop and manage the work activities and staff of the Urban Design section of the Urban Planning Department. • Manage urban design planning activities and the preparation of the urban design elements of all planning initiatives • Participate in or lead the preparation and periodic update of master plans, area plans, and district / cluster plans • Coordinate the preparation and periodic update of other planning documents as required (e.g. landscape plans, land subdivision plans, pedestrian circulation plans, wayfinding, etc.) • Participate in monitoring plan compliance and provide technical support during plan implementation • Develop protocols and manage the review of consultant, tenant, developer submissions with regards to urban design components • Manage the formulation of urban design policy and guidelines Key Tasks Areas of responsibility include the following: • Support the Manager – Urban Planning in coordinating work streams and team members • Develop and manage a competent team of planning professionals to execute the works of the section and support planning and development activities. • Plan and execute urban design projects and programmes that meet requirements, and manage budgets, timelines, and delivery. • Manage all urban design related activities from preparing scopes of work through monitoring plan compliance and managing change • Initiate further studies or planning activities required to support the implementation of the August 2007 KPIZ Master Plan, strategic plans, business plans, and other initiatives • Manage or participate in special plans and studies (e.g. Workforce residential; wayfinding; landscape planning; etc.) • Contribute to urban design policies and procedures • Participate in preparing development and design guidelines, codes, and other rules or regulations as required • Liaise with external regulatory authorities and stakeholders as necessary • Manage in-house project teams and external consultants to carry out tasks • Supervise the day-to-day tasks of team members and monitor the performance to ensure that staff develops workloads and programmes, meets approved service objectives, policies, procedures and performance targets • Carry out any other activity identified to support planning and policy development | ||
| Skills | • Degree or Post Graduate Qualification in Urban Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, or associated field • Membership of a recognised professional body (AICP, RTPI, AIA, etc) • More than 10 years experience Competencies Technical: • Strong knowledge of urban design, urban planning, architecture, and/or related field(s) • Strong ability in methods and techniques of effective research and technical report preparation and presentation • Ability to prepare and analyze technical and administrative reports, statements, and correspondence Professional: • Experience application of the principles and practices of urban design, urban planning, and development • Ability to interpret planning and development proposals • Experience in the recruitment, supervision, training, and evaluation of assigned staff • Experience in directing and implementing urban design / urban planning programmes • Experienced project manager • Experience team leader that can recruit, manage, direct, and motivate team members • Note industrial experience a plus Behavioural: • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in English, both orally and in writing • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative team working relationships • Ability to engage with stakeholders and establish a high level of credibility as a representative | ||
