BASIC FUNCTION:
The Senior Design Engineer will be primarily responsible for marine technical support, including the assessment of moorings, marine drilling risers and jack-up foundations for the international MODU fleet. In addition, the Senior Design Engineer will be responsible for basic floating vessel stability and motion calculations, marine issues associated with drillship, semisubmersible and jack-up drilling units, and coordinating the preparation and updating of vessel operating manuals.

DUTIES:
1.Solving engineering design and analysis problems in support of the Engineering Discipline Manager or Project Manager.
2.Perform inspections and attend tests of construction work to ensure compliance with approved drawings, workmanship standards, and contract specifications.
3.Attend, when requested, vessel inspections to define the scope of work required for vessel modifications, repairs and conversions.
4.Coordinate the work of CAD designers, technicians and contractors to ensure quality standards and design criteria are met.
5.Organize technical discussions with subcontractors and vendors in order to specify designs or systems necessary for an engineering project.
6.Coordinate regulatory and classification body reviews and approvals.
7.Support and assist rig operations staff, shipyard teams and marketing staff with technical queries and coordinate resolutions as required.
8.Review and approve engineering drawings and calculations in compliance with classification and regulatory rules, and ensure adequate standards of safety are incorporated.
9.Work with client, subcontractors and operational personnel in order to assist with rig move planning and execution.
10.Contribute to a positive relationship with the client, subcontractors, vendors and the operating regions of the Company to ensure a high degree of cooperation to achieve the best possible results.
SkillsEDUCATION:
B.S., M.S., or M.E. in Engineering. Major in Naval Architecture, Civil, Marine or Ocean Engineering.

EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of 5 years’ work experience with drilling contractor, marine contractor or consulting firm working specifically for the offshore drilling industry. Must have specific experience in the areas of mooring system analysis and design, marine drilling riser analysis and design, vessel stability and naval architecture or geotechnical foundation assessments for jack-up rigs.

SKILLS:
Relevant computer skills. A good understanding of ABS, DNV, API, and related industry regulations and standards.

Must have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Must be capable of multiple tasking, and exhibit effective written and oral communication skills. The individual must be able to work independently and within a team environment. Should be a self-starter and able to take initiative as needed.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Intimate familiarity with marine-related rig systems.

The position requires the individual to travel internationally and to offshore installations. Total travel time could comprise 6-8 weeks of a working year.

SUPERVISION:
Design Engineer, CAD Designer and Technician, Consultants, Contractors, Fabricators, Vendor Service personnel.

Must have the ability to ensure that all aspects of a problem are understood and effectively managed within the recommended solution. Must be able to perform with a sense of urgency, and with the highest ethical standards without sacrificing accuracy and professional engineering practices.

DECISION MAKING:
Acts independently to reach sound technical decisions concerning integrity and performance of rigs. Evaluates and recommends for manager’s approval all actions which have significant financial impact or operational consequences. Establish priority on special project assignments, make final decision concerning certain rig equipment application and operational procedures. Recommend operational practices and procedures to rig operations.
