BASIC FUNCTION:
The Senior Design Engineer will be primarily responsible for structural engineering support of the international MODU fleet. The Senior Design Engineer will be responsible for managing structural engineering projects, and provide guidance to the design drafting group on assigned projects. The responsibilities also include carrying out design calculations, FE analyses, design reviews, and providing guidance to structural modifications on existing fleet and hull preservation activities.

DUTIES:
1.Solving structural engineering design and analysis problems in support of the Engineering Discipline Manager or Project Manager.
2.Perform inspections and attend tests of construction work to ensure compliance with approved drawings, workmanship standards, and contract specifications.
3.Attend, when requested, vessel inspections to define the scope of work required for vessel modifications, repairs and conversions.
4.Coordinate the work of CAD designers, technicians and contractors to ensure quality standards and design criteria are met.
5.Organize technical discussions with subcontractors and vendors in order to specify designs or systems necessary for an engineering project.
6.Liaison and submittal of design packages for class approvals. Coordinate regulatory and classification body reviews and approvals.
7.Support and assist rig operations staff, shipyard teams and marketing staff with technical queries and coordinate resolutions as required.
8.Review and approve engineering drawings and calculations in compliance with classification and regulatory rules, and ensure adequate standards of safety are incorporated.
9.Work with project managers, clients subcontractors and operational personnel in order to assist with planning and execution of shipyard projects.
10.Contribute to a positive relationship with the client, subcontractors, vendors and the operating regions of the Company to ensure a high degree of cooperation to achieve the best possible results.
SkillsEDUCATION:
B.S., M.S., or M.E. in Engineering. Major in Structural, Civil, Marine, or Ocean Engineering.

EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of 5 years’ work experience with drilling contractor, marine contractor or consulting firm working specifically for the offshore drilling industry. Must have specific experience in the areas of structural analysis and design, FE analysis, and related shipyard structural engineering project support.

SKILLS:
• Intimate familiarity with structural analyses software such as StruCAD*3D, SACS, Solidworks and COSMOS. A good understanding of ABS, DNV, API, AISC and related industry regulations and standards.
• Must have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Must be capable of multiple tasking, and exhibit effective written and oral communication skills.
• The individual must be able to work independently and within a team environment. Should be a self-starter and able to take initiative as needed.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The position requires the individual to travel internationally and to offshore installations. Total travel time could comprise about 10% of a working year.

SUPERVISION:
Design Engineer, CAD Designer and Technician, Contractors, Fabricators, Vendor Service personnel.

Must be self-motivated and possess superior skills to identify and solve unusual problems associated with improved rig performance, construction characteristics and safety. Must have the ability to ensure that all aspects of a problem are understood and effectively managed within the recommended solution. Must be able to perform with a sense of urgency, and with the highest ethical standards without sacrificing on accuracy and professional engineering practices.

DECISION MAKING:
Acts independently to reach sound technical decisions concerning structural engineering issues on the rigs. Evaluates and recommends for manager’s approval all actions which have significant financial impact or operational consequences. Establish priority on project assignments and provide reliable decisions concerning structural fabrication, installations, and hull preservation activities.
