| Description | BASIC FUNCTION: Perform analysis, troubleshoot and diagnose problems as required for projects and assistance to Newbuild dynamically positioned (DP), offshore drilling units, supervise and inspect work done by subcontractors and vendors. DUTIES: 1.Assist the Project Manager or Engineer in solving engineering design and analysis problems. 2.Perform inspections and attend tests of construction work to ensure compliance with approved drawings, workmanship standards and contract specifications. 3.Coordinate the work of draftsmen and technicians to ensure the quality of the design criteria is met. 4.Review and approve engineering drawings and calculations in compliance with Classification and Regulatory Rules, and ensure adequate standards of safety are incorporated. 5.Organize technical discussions with subcontractors and vendors in order to specify designs or systems necessary for an engineering project. | ||
| Skills | QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Associates in Applied Sciences degree or equivalent, with extensive application experience in the respective DP/Controls discipline. EXPERIENCE: Minimum 5 to 10 years’ work experience with offshore drilling contractor, marine contractor, service contractor, construction and engineering or consulting engineering firm. Experience should include specific knowledge in control of DP vessels. Marine background should include installation, test, troubleshooting and commissioning of vessel’s position reference, navigation, communication and/or data management systems. SKILLS: Must demonstrate expertise in the designated DP/Controls discipline and possess organizational skills to deal with multiple tasks, simultaneously. Must exhibit proven written and oral communication skills to deal with multinational work force. Proficiency demonstrated at the “advanced level” in the following: • PLC Programming (Ladder and/or Statement) • Microsoft Windows operating environment • MS Word • MS Project • MS Excel SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of vessel Classification Society regulations and guidelines, knowledge and work experience in marine and/or drilling industry with shipyard construction experience is required. SUPERVISION: Some supervision of CAD personnel. INGENUITY: Must be self-motivated and possess superior skills to identify and solve unusual problems associated with improved rig performance, reliability, efficiency and safety. Has to have ability to ensure that all aspects of a problem are understood and effectively managed within the recommended solution. Must be able to perform with a sense of urgency and to the highest ethical standards, without sacrificing accuracy and professional engineering practices. DECISION MAKING: Acts independently to reach sound technical decisions concerning operational integrity and regulatory compliance of rigs. Evaluates and recommends for manager’s approval all actions which have significant financial impact or operational consequences. | ||
