Description BASIC FUNCTION:
The Senior Engineering specialist is based in the central engineering department to assist on major issues on the subsea and well control systems. The position requires the individual to work proactively to help reduce equipment downtime, evaluate major equipment failures, and prepare technical specifications for new equipment purchases. The position requires close work relationships with subsea and well control equipment suppliers to solve equipment problems, develop and implement upgrades. The individual facilitates the lessons-learned process on equipment failures by clearly communicating solutions to all applicable rigs in the fleet. Duties include preparing specifications, reviewing manufacturer drawings and calculations, inspecting work done by subcontractors and vendors, and attending final acceptance tests on new and overhauled equipment and commissioning new systems.

DUTIES:
1.Actively supports the Safety Vision, “Our operations will be conducted in an incident-free environment, everywhere, all the time,” and the Engineering commitment to Safety, “We will provide guidance and leadership to enhance a safety driven culture worldwide by striving to engineer risk out of safety-critical equipment.”
2.Assist the Engineering Discipline Manager, Project Manager or Engineer in solving design and analysis problems.
3.Travel to rigs to inspect, train, troubleshoot and develop solutions for subsea and well control system problems and upgrades.
4.Perform inspections and attend tests of new equipment to ensure compliance with approved drawings, workmanship standards and contract specifications.
5.Coordinate the work of draftsmen, technicians and vendors to ensure the quality of the design criteria is met.
6.Develop, review or edit engineering drawings and calculations in compliance with Classification and Regulatory Rules, and ensure adequate standards of safety are incorporated.
7.Organize technical discussions with subcontractors and vendors in order to specify designs or systems necessary for an engineering project.
8.Evaluate existing designs of subsea and well control systems and related equipment to determine the operational effectiveness, safety, and relative cost of operating and maintaining such systems.
9.Become proficient with company systems such as WebPages, electronic documentation (eDocs), and use of electronic bulletin boards.
10.Assist with planning and budget preparation for major overhauls or equipment upgrades.
SkillsEDUCATION:
Associates or Bachelors in Applied Sciences degree, Technical School or equivalent is desirable, with extensive application experience in the respective discipline. Strong technical background in hydraulics, basic equipment design and mechanical engineering and equipment design issues relating to this equipment is required.

EXPERIENCE:
Minimum 10 years work experience with offshore drilling contractor, marine contractor/engineer, or subsea and well control equipment manufacturer.

SKILLS:
Demonstrate expertise with all mechanical aspects of subsea and well control systems, including basic control system components and hydraulic systems. This should include a high level of training in well control situations, equipment preventative maintenance, general metallurgy, basic welding theory, and lubrication practices.
Knowledge of marine drilling industry and relevant oilfield equipment (blowout preventers, well control systems and equipment, diverters, marine drilling risers, etc.) is required.
Must demonstrate expertise in the designated discipline and possess organizational skills to deal with multiple tasks, simultaneously. Must demonstrate proficient written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrate proficiency at the “advanced level” in the following company software suites/packages:
• Microsoft Windows/Office operating environment
• MS Word
• MS Project
• MS Excel
• Basic CAD desired

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OR ACTIVITIES:
• Stays informed concerning equipment failures. Facilitates the spread of knowledge between rigs, regions and the applicable vendors. Ensures component failures are reported to manufacturer and regional field support; and are shared with the fleet. Examines failed parts whenever possible.
• Assists in preparation, review and distribution of advisories, alerts and bulletins as required.
• Monitors and reports on the disposition of actions specific rigs have taken to mitigate downtime risk.
• Identifies and promotes best maintenance and operations practices
• International travel, sometimes extensive is required.

SUPERVISION:
Some supervision of CAD personnel and junior engineers is required.

INGENUITY:
Must be self-motivated and possess analytical skills to identify and solve unusual problems associated with improved rig performance, construction characteristics and safety. Has to have ability to ensure that all aspects of a problem are understood and effectively managed within the recommended solution. Must be able to perform with a sense of urgency and to the highest ethical standards, without sacrificing accuracy or compromising sound engineering practices.

DECISION MAKING:
Acts independently in reaching sound technical decisions concerning system integrity and reliability for subsea and well control systems on rigs. Evaluates and recommends for manager’s approval all actions which have significant commercial or financial impact, or other operational consequence.
