Occidental has significant oil and gas operations in many areas of the world, including the Middle East, South America, the Permian Basin, California and the Rocky Mountains. Under the general guidance of the Drilling Manager, the Drilling Engineering Supervisor/Drilling Superintendent supervises the design, planning and execution of the drilling and completions of wells in a safe and cost effective manner and in conformance with established Company guidelines, policies, procedures and applicable governmental regulations. • Coordinates and supervises the activities of Drill Site Managers (DSM’s) with regard to the drilling and completion of wells. • Consults on, reviews, critiques and approves well cost estimates and drilling plans prepared by the drilling engineers. • Ensures optimum operational, financial, safety and environmental goals and objectives have been established for projects. • Evaluates and approves drilling rigs and associated equipment. • Supports the Drilling Department by sharing experiences on past results achieved and lessons learned with drilling team to ensure improved overall department performance. • Is an active participant in well design reviews and risk assessments • Provides for the development of direct reports by means of performance appraisals and personal development plans as well as mentoring • Sets department operational goals • Manages the loss control responsibilities and training requirements of direct reports. Reviews and approves rig inspection, incident investigation and safety meeting reports submitted by direct reports. Ensures communication and follow-up on deficiencies/remedial actions are conducted as per the action plan. • Conducts and/or leads incident investigations when appropriate. • Ensures field work is performed in compliance with all applicable regulations and Company policies. • Occasionally performs the duties of Drilling Manager. • Communicates with partners and senior management as needed • Establishes standard practices and standard operating practices that engineers will utilize • Reviews and approves procedures, technical details and hazard/risk analysis • Participates in well design reviews and risk analysis. Ensures they are effective and follow department and global standards. • Assigns Contract responsibilities to engineers and ensures the Contractor Management standards are followed. • Monitors and takes an active role in ensuring all engineers receive appropriate training - technical, safety and compliance. • Benchmarks to assess department performance, identify strengths and weaknesses, and establish goals. Provides benchmark data to CDG Performance Engineer on a yearly basis. • Provides for personal development of direct reports through assignments, training, and coaching. • Conducts formal performance appraisals and coordinates Personal Development Plans for all direct reports. | ||
