Worldwideworker joins OXY in a cycling adventure for a good cause!
The BP MS 150 Bike Tour is a two-day cycling adventure from Houston to Austin that raises funds to help people living with MS.
Under a blessedly overcast sky with gentle cool breezes, 12,000 bicyclists pedaled from Houston to Austin over the weekend of April 21 and 22 2007, raising $12 million for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Both the number of riders and the number of dollars are records for the MS 150 ride.
Worldwideworker’s Event Manager Baudien van der Ham joined the OXY Cycling Team in this 2-day, 180 mile ride. “It’s unbelievable to be riding with twelve thousand cyclists together all for the same cause. I felt quite emotional sometimes when MS patients came out and sat on the side of the road waiving and thanking us. Cycling 90 miles per day, two days in a row, is not easy! Regardless of the saddle pain, the team spirit I experienced in the OXY team and amongst all other riders was phenomenal and made the whole experience a lot of fun! I was impressed by how very well the event was organized logistically; each 10 – 20 miles there is a rest stop with foods, beverages and paramedics, all roads are secured and SAG vehicles circle the route for broken bikes and weary cyclists. Thousands of volunteers lend a helping hand and they made sure rest areas were operated smoothly. They also gave us a boost in energy! All in all I had a great ride and was happy I could contribute a little to a good cause. Thanks to OXY who welcomed me in their team as if I was one of them. If I have the opportunity I will certainly do it again next year!”
