Position overview and responsibilities: The Community Relations Specialist is accountable for effectively and strategically managing the company’s community relations program. This position will be primarily responsible for developing positive relations with local community stakeholders in order to proactively identify and mitigate social issues that could potentially impact operations. The position will also ensure Talisman’s corporate community relations and stakeholder engagement standards and protocols are followed by employees and contractors to ensure global alignment and develop Talisman’s reputation as a safe and ethically, socially and environmentally responsible operator and corporate citizen. The Community Relations Specialist will also be responsible for executing corporate community relations programs in country as required. This position will be filled on a rotational basis. Reporting to the Corporate Affairs Manager, the Community Relations Specialist in exercising their accountabilities the incumbent will be bounded by the respective corporate functional policies and standards: • Establishing a consistent and professional approach to managing community relations that meets the company’s strategic objectives and maintains a positive corporate reputation. • Identifying and mapping all local and indigenous communities with legal or customary use tenure in areas of the company’s operations and their accepted decision making processes • Identifying all community consultation requirements and approvals necessary for direct or indirect company operations and coordinating their completion and attainment. • Negotiating appropriate permissions, such as land access and compensation to support the company’s operations in a timely and sustainable manner. • Developing community investment strategies and implementation plans to effectively and efficiently provide sustainable benefits to the communities impacted by the company’s operations. • Prepare and submit all required monitoring, reporting or other requirements specified in the communities consultation requirements and approvals. • Interpreting relevant statutes and regulations and assist operations staff with decisions that relate to regulatory compliance. • Managing the objectives and performance of contractors tasked with carrying out specific community consultation processes. • Providing community relations awareness education and training to company staff and contractors. • Leads frontline interaction with community stakeholders to ensure successful implementation of Company’s operations and compliance with relevant laws and regulations. • Develops a network of key contacts with stakeholder groups and in industry peers in the area of Company’s operation. • Develops a framework and baseline study of the area including a three year Work Program and Budget. |

Skills required for Community Relations Specialist |
Education, experience, technical Skills: • Minimum 8 years extractive industry experience in Community Relations. • Minimum 5 yrs experience of field work performing community consultations and executing social investment plans • Experience and ability to conduct land access negotiations and develop sustainable compensation agreements with impacted communities, tenant farmers and landowners. • Experience working the Kurdistan Region of Northern Iraq or Middle Eastern Region. • Ability to assess priorities, adapt to changing circumstances and act accordingly. • Strong people and external facing skills. • Broad network of contacts with local communities and regulatory entities. • Ability to manage contractors. • Good spoken and written communication skills. Competency in English is desirable. • Travel requirements to the field of approximately 60% of the time. |
