Description of GIS and Mapping Specialist	Maersk Oil is looking for a professional GIS and Mapping Specialist to join the Survey Team within the newly established Corporate Technology and Projects Department (CTP) at our Copenhagen headquarters. CTP is overall responsible for field development activities and for building and maintaining Maersk Oil's technological excellence within petroleum engineering, drilling and engineering disciplines. The Survey Team: The Survey Team manages surveying and positioning activities in Denmark and overseas, ranging from drilling and construction surveys to support of seismic exploration surveys, both on- and offshore. The team provides technical services within geomatics including geodesy, coordinate data management, mapping, remote sensing and GIS. The position: The key responsibilities of this position are development and management of Geographical Information Systems in support of business processes: • GIS based access to spatial databases • GIS data models for storage of geospatial data • Population and maintenance of GIS databases • GIS based map production processes • Integrated visualisation of multiple data types • Templates and cartographic standards for computer generated maps • Expert advice and technical services in support of GIS users
Skills required for GIS and Mapping Specialist	The person: • The right candidate is a team player with an analytical and inquiring mind, able to set targets and achieve them and act on own initiative. • He/she will be able to demonstrate the strong personal drive and commitment necessary to produce high quality results under challenging conditions. • The successful candidate will be expected to apply considerable effort developing the skills required to fulfil the role, not only the technical aspects but also in the areas of project and contract management and the underlying commercial principles. Qualifications & Experience: • The successful candidate is expected to be qualified at BSc or MSc level within geomatics or other relevant geo-information science and to have experience of GIS project management, implementation and maintenance of GIS databases and visualisation of geospatial data. • Previous experience from the oil and gas industry is desirable. • He or she must have strong communication skills, both written and spoken, in the English language • The ability to interact and communicate clearly with third party contractors as well as colleagues across departmental boundaries.
