Description of Head Audit & Risk Management

An E&P Company in Lagos, Nigeria is currently recruiting a Head Audit & Risk Management.

Objectives:
• To ensure that the company adopts consistent standards of internal controls which are relevant to the business risks and to assist in maximizing of company resources in the most efficient manner.
• Develop necessary structures and policies to manage operational risk issues and initiatives, assess operational risk impact on business operations and advice according.
• Implement and entrench a risk management culture within the company.

The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following:

Internal Audit:
• Overseeing the Internal Audit function as a whole and providing leadership direction to the department.
• Conduct investigations into all cases of frauds, losses and malpractices.
• Direct the execution of audit work plan and conduct the necessary supervision in accordance with the company internal audit policies and procedures, prescribed audit objectives and generally acceptable auditing standards.
• Carry out risk assessment on the various companies within the Group, develop a company approach and lead the implementation.
• Review the department’s staffing levels and monitor their activities and progress. Implement staff appraisals and recommends pay increases and promotions. Develop reviews and identify specific training needs for Internal Audit staff.
• Development, planning and reconciliation of the annual Internal Audit operating budget. Analyses operating and financial reports to monitor actual performance against budget forecast. Maintain a cost control environment and philosophy.
• Participate in the development of strategic and tactical plans which will assure long term growth, profit and operating efficiencies.
• Assist as agreed with the External Auditors in the work required for the audit of the company’s accounts.
• And any other Audit issues as determined by the Directors.

Risk Management:
• Provide and assist in the development of Risk Management strategies.
• Develop guidelines and policies for Risk management mitigation across company.
• Develop and design Risk policies, procedures and standards.
• Establish the process necessary to ensure company Risk Programmes meet or exceed expectations.
• Ensure accurate updates of Risk items identified on Risk Mgt systems.
• Provide oversight for accuracy, completeness and testing Business Continuancy plan from a Risk Operations perspective.
• Co-ordinate and ensure the identification, consolidation and reports on anomalies, common and future potential risks.
• Report identified risks and status of Risk mitigation action back to the Board of Directors.
• Review and enhance Business control structure across company.
•Responsible for increasing Risk awareness in company.

Skills required for Head Audit & Risk Management

• B.Sc. Accounting or related field.
• Professionally qualified accountant e.g. ACA, ACCA.
• Desired experience - 12 years post qualification and at least 2 years in a similar position.
• Skills – Analytical, Interpersonal, Communication, Report writing, Strategic, Management and leadership.
• Knowledge of carrying out risk assessment on a business.
• Computer skills – PC literacy.
• Knowledgeable about the relevant Statements of Accounting Standards (SAS).
• Knowledgeable about key fiscal requirements under the law.
• Accounting technical skills.
