Description of Inspection Engineer |
Purpose: To supervise and participate in the inspection and testing of all static equipment of process plants and pipelines and provides analyses of equipment condition. Background: • Reports to Inspection Section Head. The Inspection Section is responsible for carrying out all inspections activities required to ensure plant integrity and reliability for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the plant based on RBI methods. • The job holder inspects plant process equipment, maintenance and capital investment works, and materials received in the warehouse when required, to ensure compliance with codes, standards and specifications. • He handles contractors ranging from highly specialized to labors, depending on relevant inspection tasks, during Major Maintenance and/or Extraordinary Maintenance projects or other specific activities. Main Accountabilities: • To supervise all on-stream and shutdown inspection activities for stationary equipment, pressure relieving devices, corrosion monitoring and investigation of failures. • To identify areas of concern and propose dedicated inspection procedures to follow-up their resolution to improve Plants Integrity. • To prepare data to implement and updates the Risk Based Inspection (RBI) methodology to enhance Plants Integrity and Reliability in order to optimize inspection frequencies, maintenance cost and Plants Availability. • To assist the Inspection Section Head to prepare long and short-term inspection Business Plans and Budgets. • To comply with all company Health, Safety and Environment as well as Work Permit, policies and procedures • To advise on repair techniques, materials selection, welding procedures, inspection and testing requirements. • To supervise and participates in non-destructive testing of equipment and piping, including review of preliminary interpretations carried out by subordinates. • To check condition of safety relief valves, prescribes repairs, as required and witness relief pressure setting, including hot setting where needed. • To provide instruction to meet Competency Based Training programs for UAE Nationalization. • To review project FEED proposals and design documents regarding material selection and mechanical integrity, perform shop and field inspections and review QA/QC documents, method statements etc. during project execution. • To review Cathodic Protection (CP) data of plant underground piping, tanks, pipelines and jetty structures, and also conduct/supervise specialized surveys and recommend corrective actions. Main Challenges: • To ensure integrity of plant equipment and pipelines, including piping, in view of the large volume of identified defects. |

Skills required for Inspection Engineer |
Minimum Requirements: • BSC or equivalent in Mechanical- / Metallurgical / Chemical Engineering • 5 years experience working in inspection of hydrocarbon processing plants • Good command of English • Should be prepared to work in confined spaces and dirty conditions • Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint & IDMS Additional Requirements: Optional: Authorized API-510 / 570 and / or CSQIP – inspector. (I.E. authorized pressure vessel, piping, senior welding respectively), and / or painting inspector. |
