Description of Mechanical Inspector - LNG Plant |
The Mechanical Inspector is responsible for the mechanical inspection activities, quality and technical integrity of the LNG Project. The key responsibilities of the Mechanical Inspector of the LNG project are: • Reviews RFC (Released For Construction) drawings, construction plans and specifications to ensure complete familiarity with their function and the totality of the construction work. • Performs visual inspections. • Report contractor deficiencies. • Review, approve and authorize the quality - / inspection - / NDT documents (like PQP, ITP and NDT reports). Ensures proper storage and preservation of materials and sensitive items. • When appropriate authorizes / witnesses contractors pre-commission tests and / or calibrate equipment prior to installation. • Assure that all the quality requirements and inspections are performed in accordance with the approved Project Quality Plan and / or Inspection Test Plan. • Monitors construction quality on a daily basis • Monitors and stays abreast of the day-to-day work of Contractor and / or inspection services specific to his/her discipline and ensures their qualifications. • Discusses quality deficiencies, construction deviations and inspection findings with the Mechanical Lead & Construction Contractor and develops win-win solutions. • Provides discipline specific construction feedback to the Mechanical Lead that can be used in improving subsequent Contracts and/or improve product quality. • Brings any safety, environmental or security issues to the attention of the Mechanical Lead / Shell Construction Manager. • Assure that all inspection records / quality documents and relevant project documents will be maintained and archived according the project execution plan (hardcopy and / or electronically). • Assist in developing the commissioning plans for the asset • Addresses QA/QC requirements associated with equipment manufacture and supply, fabrication and field assembly/construction are fully met. |

Skills required for Mechanical Inspector - LNG Plant |
The Ideal candidate should possess the following technical skill sets and qualifications: • Relevant Mechanical Engineering degree (Bachelor or equivalent) • At least 10 - 15 years relevant experience within inspection / quality assurance / quality control • At least 10 years experience within new construction projects, preferable LNG terminals / pipelines / both green field and brown field / $150 MM range • Knowledge of relevant Inspection codes, like ASME / API • Ability to read, interpret and to judge NDT reports. • Qualified X-ray / radiography interpreter (preference) • Ability to read, interpret and understand technical drawings (piping, structural, electrical, instrument, civil, etc.) • Broad knowledge of construction, commissioning and inspection best practices. • The ability to identify and intervene in problem areas, well developed problem solving skills • Be able to conduct technical and management audits. • Must have specific knowledge related to piping, welding (incl. pre heat and heat treatment), materials, corrosion aspects, structural surveying, the handling and setting of heavy equipment, equipment leveling and tie-down procedures, installing and pre-commissioning of static equipment. • Knowledge of hydro testing procedures and piping design codes. • A sound knowledge of NDT Inspection techniques, like PMI, MPT, DPT, UT and X-ray / radiography. • Knowlegde of painting / coating and isolation procedures. • Preferred experiences with Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD). |
