Description of Senior Drilling Engineer |
Maersk Oil continues to grow its business activities internationally and have recently undergone a major reorganisation in order to strengthen our focus on technology excellence, while preparing for further growth. The newly established Corporate Drilling function will be responsible for ensuring consistent operational excellence and safe reliable execution of drilling projects around the world, facilitated by effective standards and procedures, efficient knowledge sharing systems as well as efficient and cost effective procurement practices. The Position: The successful candidate will be working in the Corporate Drilling section – International Operations, established under the ‘Corporate Technology and Projects Department’ and reporting to the International Operations Team Leader. The position is vital in our new organizational set-up, important for Maersk Oil’s continued growth and carries responsibility for both planning and subsequent follow-up during execution of some very challenging wells around the world, some of them in hostile and deep water environment. You will become part of a small team presently consisting of a number of Drilling Engineers with broad technical backgrounds, where it is expected that several operations could be ongoing at the same time, either at planning stage or at execution stage. Work scope and Responsibilities: The work will entail detailed well/Operations planning and subsequent technical support during the execution of exploration and appraisal wells in areas around the world where Maersk Oil currently have licenses or in new areas yet to come. Such areas would include West Africa, South America, Middle East, possibly Gulf of Mexico and any other area, where the company would be engaged in either onshore or off-shore operations. Well planning in this context, encompasses all issues such as, insuring accurate pore pressure/fracture gradient analyses are performed, well design, AFE costs, tubular and wellhead design including assistance with tendering, procurement, coordinating and insuring accuracy of directional well plans, drilling fluids design, shallow hazards and completion of reports, etc. Work also includes close liaison with exploration & appraisal well teams to insure geological and geophysical goals are realistically planned and attainable. Operations planning include assistance with all relevant issues such as, logistics, incl. boat and helicopter services where applicable, environmental issues, authority approvals, etc. Other responsibilities includes issues like capturing lessons learned and best practices (internal & external) for sharing with other members of the drilling community and inclusion into future programs. Staying abreast of emerging new technologies and bringing them forth for incorporation into well design and operations is also a key component of this job. During potential periods of reduced exploration drilling activity, the individual would be required to participate in other corporate drilling activities, as normally carried out by the Corporate Drilling Engineering Group. |

Skills required for Senior Drilling Engineer |
Qualifications and Profile of Candidate: The individual would have an engineering degree, (i.e. Diploma or MSC. Engineer) or similar educational background. 6 to 8 years experience working as Drilling Engineer is considered a must. Experience with operations from a deep water environment would be very advantageous, as would knowledge of sub salt drilling operations. Personal skills include ability to interact with other disciplines, motivate people and being a good team player. He/she should also be capable of providing good communication, effective across a broad spectrum of nationalities and cultures. High ethical standards, integrity and trustworthiness are likewise essential requirements for the person in the position. |
