Description of Subsurface Manager |
Our company is a specialized international O&G company with operations all across Middle East, North Africa and Eastern Europe. Our company has been involved in the last 15 years in some of the most successful field redevelopment and rehabilitation projects in Venezuela, Norway and Romania. We redevelop and rehabilitate mature oil and gas fields in order to increase the reserves and production of the assets. The overall objective of the Subsurface Group manager is to increase reserves and the recovery factor of the Reservoir we operate. The role of the Subsurface Group is to provide reservoir expertise and technical assistance to production asset or field study team. The group specializes in tasks relating to basin analysis, with particularly focus on petroleum systems evaluation, sedimentology, geochemistry, structural analysis, reservoir engineering and Enhanced Oil Recovery Program. Work undertaken is performed in very close collaboration with the operations and production team. The Subsurface Group Manager works with a large variety of geological, geophysical and petrophysical challenges. The Subsurface Group Manager is in charge of the overall Geophysics, Reservoir Engineering and Data Management of the company. As an integral part of the work, the Subsurface Group Manager is also responsible for establishing and maintaining collaboration with universities, research groups and individual experts worldwide and ensures that the available external knowledge is optimally used and integrated in the work. Members of the Subsurface Group work with the Production team and part of their role is to carry experience around in the organization and spread best practice. Additionally, they have, within their area of expertise, an obligation to ensure that the quality of the Production team’s work is high, consistent and in line with Company standards. The Subsurface Group Manager is responsible for the geologists, geophysicists, reservoir engineers and petrophysicists technical support staff. The Subsurface Group Manager is the daily leader of the Geoscience Group and as such responsible for the planning, execution and technical assurance of projects involving members of the Subsurface Group. In most cases this is done jointly with Fields managers and Production manager in other departments and an important part of the role is therefore to establish and maintain strong networks with field team leaders locally. The Subsurface Group Manager is expected to take an active role in technical and reservoir assessments, and evaluations locally as well as globally and contribute to peer reviews and Risk Register meeting whenever required by the Company. The Subsurface Group Manager will be reporting directly to the Company General Manager. Key Responsibilities: • Provide effective geoscience and petrophysics work planning, coordination, technical oversight/assurance, technology deployment, quality measurement and approvals and help achieve Company’s business goals and milestones • Responsible for the management of all the Company’s reservoirs and the optimization of their recovery factor and reserves • Analysis of reservoir displacement efficiency from well performance, interpreted production and open-hole logs and reservoir simulation model results • Developing workover and drilling plans, and improved production and recompletion strategies aimed at maintaining the field production target and optimizing reserves. • Main activities include formulation of reservoir development, data acquisition, strategic surveillance and monitoring master-plans, to ensure optimal development and rehabilitation strategies. • Provides guidance and oversight on best in-class reservoir management practices . • Collaborate with the Operations geologist and Operation team as required to ensure the trouble free drilling • Recommend work program components and determine their budgetary requirements. • Prepare and present recommended programs and achieve technical consensus. • Provide leadership and foster teamwork in order to motivate staff and establish work environment, work systems and practices that maximize opportunities for staff to achieve job satisfaction and contribute effectively • Promote technical knowledge sharing and development through active involvement and support of inter- and cross-departmental technical Competence Groups and communities. • Develop and maintain a broad international, external network to relevant research institutes and experts • Close collaboration with the company’s Chief Geologist, Geophysicist and Petrophysicist regarding technology development and employment, staff career planning and performance evaluations. • Recruitment of experienced and junior geoscience staff for the Company • Jointly with senior management and Production team leads continuously work to optimize Company’s resource and Company’s goals and objectives. |

Skills required for Subsurface Manager |
• A strong and enthusiastic team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and with the ability to engage and motivate others • A minimum of 15 years of petroleum industry experience from an international oil company including at least 5 years in Enhanced Oil Recovery and mature asset rehabilitation • Solid theoretical background in petroleum geology and/or geophysics combined with considerable practical experience in basin analysis and regional studies • Broad and firm experience from a variety of depositional settings and basins • Interest in innovative technology detection, development and implementation • Ability to communicate fluently in both written and spoken English |
