Description of Trading Operations Team Leader

Shell Trading integrates a global portfolio of crude oil, refined products, natural gas electrical power and chemicals. With offices in the UK, US, Canada, Singapore, The Netherlands, Japan, Barbados, The UAE and Russia and with over 2,000 employees, on any one day we can trade over 11 million barrels of crude and oil products and 9 billion cubic feet of natural gas.

This role is responsible for leading a team of 3 - 5 operators, who provide professional oil and freight operations support to the Business desks in accordance with current policies, authorities and procedures. This position will receive strategic business advice from the Trading Operations Manager.

Responsibilities:
• Ensure that all obligations arising from the contract/charter party are carried out, and that any necessary requirements are compiled with;
• Deal with cargo and freight counter-parties, terminals and vessels on a regular basis regarding all post-deal activities ensuring all necessary operational information is passed on in good time and documentary requirements are met;
• Make cargo and vessel nominations, prepare and send voyage orders and monitor progress of vessels;
• Appoint independent inspectors, expeditors and ships agents;
• Ensure that all Operational Information is entered into Trading systems in timely fashion and ensure that adequate records are kept to meet the company’s legal and fiscal obligations;
• Ensure that any necessary financial security is in place;
• Participate in out of hours coverage arrangements;
• Liaise with charterers to ensure smooth operations, avoid supply disruption and minimize demurrage costs.
• Representing Shell Trading specific oil operations interests in any Global Operations initiatives and continuing with the ongoing implementation, re-modeling and harmonization of processes and tools as part of Global Operations.
• Identifying and exploiting synergies with other parts of Shell Trading, Dubai, London and Tokyo.
• Nurturing professional oil and freight operations staff, their competencies and career development whilst creating continuous improvement, taking on new activities and assisting in the provision of a talent pipeline both within Operations and also for Trading.

Skills required for Trading Operations Team Leader

Requirements:
• Bachelor's Degree in any discipline with at least 5 years of working experience in a Trading Operations or equivalent role.
• Knowledge and experience in oil trading operations is essential
• Experience in Freight operations or Scheduling and optimization in operation will be an added advantage.
• Strong numerical skills is a must.
• Ability to supervise, motivate and coach will be essential for the role.
• A valid visa or authorization to work in Singapore is required for this position.
