The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) 2009 Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (ATCE) brought together approximately 8000 oil and gas E&P professionals from around the world and had more than 390 exhibiting companies. The show featured the latest products and services in the E&P industry.
Hunt Oil Company, Maersk Oil and Petronas Carigali participated in the Worldwideworker.com Recruitment Event and Our Worldwideworker.com Wall of Opportunities was also featured, with hundreds of oil and gas jobs worldwide.
University students, which represent approximately 1,400 of ATCE’s attendees, had the opportunity to participate in events and sessions specifically for them, including the Student Recruiting and Networking Fair and the PetroBowl, where student chapter teams compete in a tournament-style contest that tests their knowledge of SPE and the E&P industry.
It was a great opportunity for Worldwideworker.com to introduce the new Graduate section on our website http://www.worldwideworker.com/graduate-jobs/
In partnership with the SPE, Worldwideworker.com will group all entry level and graduate jobs as well as internships in one location; the ideal place for graduates and student to start looking for energy and engineering jobs.
In 2010, for the first-time in its 85-year history, the SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition will be held outside of the United States on 20-22 September 2010 in Florence, Italy.
A record-breaking week at SPE Offshore Europe has seen the international event raise the bar even higher with record crowds and the largest ever exhibition, alongside a conference which featured many of the world’s leading energy industry and political figures.
The premier upstream oil and gas event drew more than 49,000 attendees, 20% more than the previously record-breaking 2007 conference and exhibition, and featured more than 1,500 exhibiting companies from around the world. This year’s exhibition was the largest in the event’s history, expanding 11% compared to the last show in 2007 with 13 international pavilions and an entire new hall. This included 330 companies participating at the show for the first time.
The Worldwideworker.com Recruitment Event was located at a premium spot in the Arena, and featured recruiters from Addax Petroleum, DONG Energy E&P and Petronas Carigali. It was most encouraging to see the interest in available energy jobs and the crowds surrounding the recruiters as well as the Worldwideworker.com Wall of Opportunities. This eye catcher had almost 150 oil jobs on display, which is only a fraction of the number of energy jobs on our website www.worldwideworker.com.
It proves again that, even in what is a difficult time for the oil and gas industry, there are obviously still companies hiring for numerous global positions and there are many (experienced) people interested in which energy jobs are available worldwide.
Denver, Colorado, USA (June 7-10, 2009) - The American Association of Petroleum Geologist (AAPG) 2009 Annual Convention & Exhibition (ACE) brought together 7,452 attendees from nearly 90 countries for a world-class event under the theme, A Passion for The West Lives On: Are You In? The 2009 ACE recorded the third-largest number of attendees in more than 10 years.
Hosted by the Rocky Mountain Association of Petroleum Geologist, the conference featured more than 1,000 oral and poster presentations over three days, in addition to field trips and short courses spanning a week. More than 260 exhibitors were on hand to demonstrate the latest technologies and services available to the E&P industry.
Worldwideworker.com hosted a recruitment pavilion that highlighted over 80 job opportunities that are available globally. Hunt Oil Company and Maersk Oil also participated in the Recruitment Event to promote their company as an Employer of Choice and to recruit top talent. Despite the current economic climate the overall atmosphere was positive with many companies planning for a staff building strategy for 2010. With more candidates available Worldwideworker.com Recruitment Events will prove to be the ideal venue to bring together hiring companies and energy professionals.

Amsterdam, Netherlands (8-11 June 2009) - The 71st EAGE Conference & Exhibition incorporating SPE EUROPEC 2009 in Amsterdam has been a success in terms of number and quality of papers. Almost 5.000 participants were present in Amsterdam and in total 299 companies were represented at the exhibition.
Worldwideworker.com and Maersk Oil took part in the EAGE Job Centre, centrally located on the EAGE exhibition floor. The mood at EAGE Amsterdam 2009 was surprisingly upbeat with the talk among participants focusing on the timing of recovery for oil and gas related business rather than dwelling on the clouds of recession that have affected the geoscience and engineering services sector. Nevertheless there were not that many jobseekers, merely people informing about their options, “Just in case…”
ABU DHABI, UAE (May 25-28, 2009) - At Gastech 2009, a 4-day top level Gas industry event, one can definitely notice that the activity is coming back into the Oil and Gas industry. After speaking with several participating companies, we have come to know that the hiring freeze which started during the financial crisis in the last quarter of 2008 has come to an end.
During Q4-2008 and Q1-2009, companies were in a panic mode and companies laid off staff for a variety of reasons. But now that there seems to be a floor in Oil & Gas prices the large budget driven companies have adjusted their plans and are slowly back to hiring people. It also seems that finances for Energy, Commodities and Power Projects are slowly starting to be available.
Particularly technical experts for the entire Oil & Gas production and processing cycles are still very much in demand. Globally many vacancies exist for jobs like:
- Process Engineers (especially with LNG related experience)
- All Deepwater skills, like: Subsea, DW Completions, DW Drilling Operations
- Flow assurance
- Operations Management: Oilfield Services
- Legal people with PSA/JV type experience
- Geophysical Experts
- Entrepreneurial people to develop small E&P Companies with experience in regions like Africa, Middle East, Russia / FSU
The fundamental shortage of experienced Technical experts and Technical Operational Management personnel is still there and with so many international projects globally in progress to fight decline rates, employment opportunities in the industry still look very healthy.
At OTC 2009 held in Houston, USA in May, The Worldwideworker.com Team spoke to over 200 companies and at least 50% of these companies are looking to hire new people. Hiring in US and Canada is still slow. In South America and Middle East, the hiring trend is up, while Asia Pacific is flat. Africa has opened their doors for expatriates again with new countries developing their hydrocarbon resources.
